June Podiatry Clinic

The June podiatry clinic held in LaGrange, Texas, hosted eight farriers and a new veterinarian. Equine Podiatry was defined. X-ray technique and interpretation was discussed as well as  basic dimensions that established parameters for describing the position of the internal structures of the hoof .  Case studies that incorporated use of the rocker and rail shoe techniques were shown and discussed in the morning session.

After lunch the clinic was moved to Billy Swains shop in Smithville, Texas and Billy demonstrated handmaking aluminum rocker and rail shoes. Billy’s demonstation was followed by hands on forge work.

Sunday morning began with three in clinic cases. X-rays were taken of each horse, a shoeing protocal established and shoeing by Allen Fee and Caleb Bergaling. Post x-rays were taken and happy owners left with more comfortable horses.
